There's more and more evidence that working overtime is unproductive.
Here's a story reported by Brian Statema in my time management class last week.
"I work for a company that is all about production. Numbers, numbers, numbers. For years it was common practice to work 2 hours of overtime every day and eight hours on Saturday.
We then inserted a new operations manager who monitors, analyzes, and reviews the time studies with the employees. We do some shuffling to find out where employees are best suited, and two years later I can tell you we have completely ended all over time.
Having said that the employees are now seeing larger bonuses because less money is being used to pay the overtime salaries. It's a win win for all. Oh and not to mention our sales have risen each of the past four years."
Looking out my home office window this week.
