Two weeks ago Cheri Brenna on our staff was driving on a two lane road.
Coming the other way, a car stopped to turn left and was rear ended by the car in back of it, sending the car into Cheri's lane where it struck her car.
Seeing smoke coming out of the hood, and the front doors jammed from the crash, she crawled into the back seat, then realizing both her feet were broken. Other people dragged her out of the car. And moments later it burst into flames, burning into a firey metal hulk.
No one in the three cars was killed. And yet this Happy Ending car crash resulted in:
1.Thousands of dollars of taxpayer money in EMTs, police, sheriff, ambulance, fire trucks, and of course record keeping.
2.Cheri having to undergo an operation, getting nightmares, being out of work for weeks (she is still not back to work).
3.Thousands of dollars of lost income and cost to my small organization, with other staff having to take over Cheri's duties and other work not getting done.
That's the Happy Ending car crash. The one you can read about. This week we feature the latest on cars and driving, with lessons from Cheri's crash with her "driving safe."
Cheri's car burning up. Not the way she or we wanted to get front page local newspaper coverage.
