The Tea Party cannot capture, or hold, the great American middle. In 12 months the Tea Party power will be so diminished it will no longer be a force in American politics.
What we are seeing now is the G.O.P. having its own internal fight between the Tea Party and Republican moderates, moderates who desperately understand the need to be relevant in the 21st century. Five years ago the G.O.P. embraced the Tea Party surge; today they have to figure out how to move on.
