With myths, wrong data, dire language and no results to report, the media this month has a blitz on pushing the 'women in STEM' cause.
Jessica Guynn of USA Today last month called the minority of women at Facebook "stark." (see our post on it)
Then writing this story in the Washington Post, Jena McGregor sought to tie a sexual harrassment case at Yahoo to the issue of getting women into STEM at tech companies. The two issues have nothing in common.
And Claire Cain Miller of The New York Times came out with the story, Some Universities Crack Code on Drawing Women to Computer Science. Lots of beliefs and bad data, but no news. "No code was cracked" as I wrote in the Comments section.
Question: will no results to report, and only myth being cited, will the media blitz get old on pushing women into STEM? Like the Tea Party peaking in 2010, this could be the year the "women in STEM" peaks and people start looking for real solutions (call us; seriously, call us!).
Pretty bird on a log. Our photos of the View from the Canoe continue this month.
