You just have to look back to see forward. Iowa is a good example.
Did a NineShift keynote for the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees, the trustees of all of Iowa's community colleges.
In 1913 Iowa had:
*Just one mile of paved road, paved in 1913.
* Over 5,000 miles of railroad track. In fact, there were only 6 spots in the state more than 10 miles from a railroad.
* Some 147,000 automobiles, but 1.4 million horses and 47,000 mules.
And yet the future was not with horses, small farms, and the railroad. The future was with automobiles and manufacturing. Today the future for both Iowa and the nation is with the intangible economy and with high speed trains. Photo: Transcontinental highway in Iowa in 1913.
