Like 1912, the Presidential election gives
Americans a big choice in the direction of the country.
NineShift predicts 2012 also the year that the Tea Party peaks in influence.
In 1912, America chose to move forward into the Industrial Age by electing Woodrow Wilson President over Taft, who did not move the nation forward fast enough. In 2012, Americans also had a once-in-100-year choice between trying to go back to the Industrial Ageand moving forward, however faltingly (and faultingly) into the Knowledge Society of the 21st Century.
But this time around America is in decline, so the outcome is far more interesting.
To be clear, President Obama would not have won without the vote of people age 18 to 29. Gen Y put him back in office.
Gen Y also made the first lesbian a U.S. Senator.
And NineShift predicts that 2012 will be seen as the height of the Tea Party. The Tea Party will still be a factor in politics until 2016, essentially the end of the influence of the Tea Party.
But an amazing year in politics. The only year equally amazing - - 1912.
NineShift co-author and civil rights leader Julie Coates sits next to James of Beloit, Wisconsin at a rally on the last day of President Obama's last political campaign. Julie and James were there in 1962. And they were there Nov 6 to celebrate their life of work for civil rights.
