Once again, a major media describes Gen Y as using social media instead of driving. Both are true. But there is no causation there.
The Economist, which ought to know better and use facts, claims (like other media) that Gen Y is driving less (see story here) because they are using social media to communicate. Gen Y IS driving less. Gen Y IS using social media. But are they travelling less? No one provides any data to back up the claim. Another Economist story on same subject.
From our perspective, Gen Y is travelling as much, maybe more, than Boomers at the same age. They are just taking trains. Train ridership set 11 straight months of record ridership, Amtrak reported last week.
Thanks to Peter Day, BBC Global Business Reporter, for sending me the links to the stories!
