This was the year that Americans realized the U.S. is in decline.
Example: the world's top light rail executive left the U.S. An American, Jay Walder upgraded the famous London England tube light rail system. He then took a job to do the same thing for the New York subway system. Right in the middle of his contract, he just got up and left the U.S. for Hong Kong. Why? Because the funding cuts meant the city, state and federal government were not serious about investing in light rail. Hong Kong is.
