Last month might have marked the first effort by the international community to pressure America to curb our pollution.
The United States, just 4% of the world's population, creates 25% of the world's pollution.
The European Union is putting pressure on U.S. airlines flying to Europe to comply with their carbon emission standards and carbon permits. The U.S. airlines, of course, are resisting. America will resist all the way to becoming an acceptable citizen of the global community.
But, and this is important given America's decline in power and influence, Europe is not giving up either. Said Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission, "We are not thinking at all about the possibility of changing our legislation. All the world should unit in some kind of directive like this one."
