2. Women More Absent From Work Than Men.
NineShift co-author and lead researcher Julie Coates discovered a new Dept. of Labor study showing that women are 2-3 times more absent from work than men. The DOL study under Labor Secretary Hilda Solis takes into account women’s role in family, child care and health duties. Even when those care activities are discounted, women STILL are absent 2-3 times more than men. The data is yet more evidence that “Teaching responsibility” in school is meaningless and punitive, not resulting in any beneficial effect for either girls or boys. (See blog entry for Nov 15)

I think the reason is that when sick, women are more likely than men to stay at home and take care of themselves rather than try to "rough it" the way men in our society have been conditioned to do.
