Neil Peirce gives a great update on the growth of light rail right now in the United States.
Great title: Post petroleum transportation.
Check out his article in the Seattle Times.
In addition to a run-down some of the exciting new light rail initiatives around the U.S. he also captures the new pro-light rail mood among local leaders, concluding "America's major metro regions may be on the
verge of transit independence."
Map: New purple line being Metro light rail line being created in Washington DC.
I'm all for the purple line here in DC, and more trains everywhere, but I'm not a fan of "Light Rail" especially along the route suggested. It makes no sense. There's no way there's going to be frequent enough stations to justify something that slow.
