Lots of talk now about when the housing market will come back in the suburbs.
Answer: never, just a slow decline (some ups, some downs, but long term decline).
The reason: the biggest generation in history, the next big wave of home owners, won't live in the suburbs.
The big argument for living in the suburbs is "good schools." But here's why Gen Y will pass on the suburbs:
1. They're not good schools. Gen Y basically hates the obsolete school system of the factory age. They're not "good," they are "out of date." Changing our schools is, according to one national survey, the highest priority for Gen Y.
2. Cars kill the earth. Gen Y will not drive cars, because Gen Y believes cars are killing the earth. So killing the earth for your children doesn't make sense.
