Are trains taking over? Tell us what you think.
Consider these big events just in the last month:
* Mass transit and train ridership is the highest since 1959! See our blog story on it.
* A high speed train set a new record of 350 mph this spring.
* American businesspeople are using trains, whenever they are in Europe, England and Japan. See our blog story on it.
* Even Amtrak is getting cocky with one of its new ads, "It really is our way or the highway."
What do you think? Are trains taking over?
I hit the light rail in Portland and Minneapolis. I'm hooked! Too bad an attempt at SMART (the Sonoma-Marin Area Rapid Transit) was vetoed by the voters of Marin County.
I think Walt Disney was on to something with the monorail. What is taking so long, California?

I also hit the light rail in Minneapolis for the Summer Institutes. It was AWESOME! My favorite part - all the people hopping on with their bikes. Signs at the stations encouraged alternative forms of transportation including bikes. Think about all the pollution those people are preventing by using those two forms of transportation rather than cars.
Bravo to Minneapolis for being so environmentally friendly!

I took my first light rail train at the Summer Institutes in Minneapolis. Wish we had those everywhere! No worries about how to get out of the parking lot, where to turn around, where is a gas station, etc.
