I have one thing to add to Terry's comments - it depends on whether I can ride the train or if the train is transporting chemical waste, industrial stuff, etc. I don't think trains are any noisier than freeways, and most of us live near them. The difference? - We BENEFIT from them. I bet if we can ride the trains the noise would be a lot more tolerable.

Do I want to live near a train? I guess it depends on whether the train whistle is loud and whether it is used at night. Does light rail use the old fasioned whistle? I would definitely use light rail if we had a good system in California but we are very behind the east coast in this area.
