The most common question I get asked about new passenger trains coming to the United States is, "Will it happen in my lifetime?"
It is not just old people asking, people of all ages ask that question,
We now have a new answer. It comes from Janice Rettman, citizen, county commissioner in Ramsey County, St. Paul, and Chair of the Minnesota High-Speed Rail Commission:
"If you drive safely."
More passenger train routes are being planned than ever before. In my area, I expect three new train routes to begin service in the next 5-6 years. Here's the latest, from Atlanta to Chattanooga.
Some people are dreaming about a maglev train from Atlanta to Chattanooga. But the reality is we don't really need high speed trains. We need frequent (four times a day) trains. And we need on-time arrivals. That's what Gen Y wants and needs. Speed will come later.
