"But mommy,we don't look like you." That comment by a 4 year old hit me hard.
I was at a wedding in St. Louis a week ago. It was a joy to meet a niece for the first time, and we talked.
She married a man of hispanic heritage and they had two children. Now single, my blond niece talked about how her 4 year old and 8 year old urged her to move to Mexico soon, before it is too late.
Their mother reassured them that they were Americans and they had nothing to worry about. But it obviously concerned her, and me, when her children told her, "But mommy, we don't look like you."
